How Whimzi works

What is it like there, right now? Whimzi answers with the one thing nobody can fake: a clip filmed there, just now, by somebody standing in it.

Right now, not last year

Every moment was filmed inside the app in the last day. There is no upload button and no camera roll — what you see is what was there.

Newest first. Always.

No algorithm, no ads, nothing boosted. The clock decides the order, and nobody can pay to jump it. Distance is only a filter, and you choose it.

Like the look of it? Go.

Tap Take me there and pick your maps app. That is the whole point of the app: to help you decide whether to leave the house.

Show what it is like

Tap to start, tap to stop, and it is live — up to 30 seconds. No caption, no filter, no second take. The crowd, the queue, the dance floor, the sunset. That is the review.

Your spot stays yours

While a moment is fresh, people see the area — a 200 m square — never the spot you stood on, and never your street unless it is a major road. After about a day every moment is deleted.

Follow places, not people

There are no followers here, no profile anybody else can see, and nobody to perform for. Follow a spot and hear when something happens there. The only number is a place’s.

After you film

A few hours later, one notification: how many people watched your moment and how many tapped Take me there. Only you ever see those numbers.

Something not right?

Report any moment from its flag. A real person at Whimzi looks at every report, and reports from somebody who is in the clip are seen first. You can also stop seeing moments from whoever filmed one, without ever learning who they are.
